Well have you ever get annoyed when you do not know a stranger which wants to add you as a friend on Facebook? I’m extremely sure it does happen to most of you.
The main problem is that these requests is that people that simply don’t explain who they are and what are their intention is when they decided to click the “add as friend” button. But come to think about, doesn’t it annoys you when you message them to ask if we had ever met or seen somewhere, or related to someone and it pisses me off because they don’t reply you. And when i viewed their profile, I found out that they had like thousands of friends on their Facebook profile. Some people just want to look popular by adding more and more friends every single day. Full of information of themselves, even girls. What if a stalker exist within our community? And starts stalking a person because of all the person’s information that was shown on the facebook account. Which is in most case, it happens.
Watch this video, it shows how much information that if very useful to people out there. Do not give your information out so easily.
Take a look at this other video. Some parts may not have any audio for a short moment but most of the important parts has audio.
Based on this video, it shows that with “Facebook”, our life is not private anymore and everything is shows in our profile itself. We cant even hide anything anymore. When you are faced with friend requests from strangers, most of us fall into either one of these two categories:
1. People are good by nature. Accept all friend requests.
2. There are people out there who are out to use you. Investigate all friend requests. If you sense something wrong, go with your instincts.
And i choose the second option because it is impossible to just accept friend requests from strangers without knowing them. I usually get to know a person 1st before adding them as a friend in any social networking sites to ensure that they are able to identify me too.I even edited the settings so that only my friends are able to view my details because i trust them.
Well i didn’t say no to everyone that it is bad. It is alright to ask strangers to explain themselves politely because you never know if it’s someone you’ve forgotten or maybe a long lost friend you’ve been finding for years. I know i’ve been there.
After all, Facebook was intended for friends to catch up with other friends and perhaps make connections with friends of friends. As you know, the email, handphones and instant messaging services provided on the internet have been a very useful communication tool for more that a century. Even the social networking siteshave been around for quite sometime as well. People even depend on them because they need it, it is like being addicted to cigarettes. But the online communications should not be destroyed in this way, the society should figure out a way to settle this. Protect yourself and protect others. Hope this information is useful.
To conclude this, here is a couple of facebook spoof for you to guys.
Every time while in the computer, we are always cautious and clear of any kind of liquid around when working on our computers. But there one this type of computer that can be used underwater. But i wonder what is it?
Answer: Dive Computer.
The dive computer (or dive com) when it comes to your scuba diving, is not similar like those laptops or desktop computers that we use at home. It appears to be more like a wristband+watch=wristwatch. This is a device used by scuba divers by measuring time and depth of a dive to ensure that a safe ascent rate can be calculated. Okay, this means that the pressure of the surrounding water increases as you go in the water, and reduces as you come out of the water. As you go deeper underwater, you have to constantly “equalise” the air pressure in your ear with the pressure of the surrounding water by pinching your nose and blowing hard out through your ears. A brief explanation about scuba diving. Anyway enough about scuba diving, lets talk about the dive computer.
As you can see there are many types of dive computer to choose from.
Basically every dive computer is just the same as long as you can use them and it functions well. When it comes to this technology, it does relate to the media, because people want to try scuba diving, it is interesting to watch them in the water exploring and make sure there are no sharks! The media is also related to this dive computer, they help to promote them and also make sure that people are into it. That is the basics of the media communication through the use of advertising.
An advanced version of a dive computer.
Well moreover, here is the interesting part. There are settings that enables you and your scuba diving partner to get in sync with the use of the dive computer and both of you are able to check each others gas pressure in the tank without interrupting the dive. This will help in case one of you are on low on gas and the dive computer automatically alerts in a form of an alarm to notify your diving partner to help. For more information, watch this video. Well its only at the ending part.
See, even a diving computer can communicate when it comes to being underwater. It is amazing how can a gadget like this is so beneficial when we are unable to talk underwater. This could also be considered as a media because no matter what, it is still connected to communication. And somehow related to shell culture too. Because there’s no verbal communication, only by gestures and the dive computer to assist in case of any emergency. Basically following the wristwatch which can also relate to the traffic lights on the street. Maybe in the future there might be wireless radio in those dive computers, it would be an awesome idea, don’t you think so?
People learn from the web. Everyone does that. We usually observe and learn so that we are able to build our knowledge. This is same with the participatory culture. In the participatory culture, things that we do on the web actually relates to the aspects of life and can benefits us in many ways. Some of them even encourages us to be what we want to be. According to Shakthi’s post about “Participatory Culture”, which illustrates that when we participate in virtual reality world, each individuals that does it relates to them encourages them to get involved and applies it to the real world. It is true, because everything resolves around us, if our virtual life succeeds being who we want to become, then its time to apply it to our lives in the reality.
For example, the virtual online game called Second Life. This is a very good example because everyone dreams of becoming successful person in life. And in the virtual life, we create what we want to become, because we like it, it makes us happy, it encourages us, and helps us to be more positive towards the real world.
In this video, it shows the introduction of second life, and how does it relate to the society. In this virtual life game, people can experience it by being creative and can do whatever they feel like doing to satisfy themselves. As you can see, even fans of star wars are able to come up with a virtual life of star wars which shows how participatory these people can be and they go beyond limits to create what satisfy them. Provided if you have a credit card. For those who don’t have, you guys can just sign up and explore for free. And it shows how does it relate to your real life. So as you can see, this is most beneficial to people because, we learn from them. Even companies from the real world for example, cell phone companies and clothing companies have second life accounts to sell their products and it is worth it, because they too can make money from them.
See how beneficial it is? If you have the chance to do so, try it. You will be able to make friends with real people and find out how much benefits it gives a person and how can it relate to the real world.
This a a surprise. According to The Star Online (Click here to view the article), Deputy Higher Education Minister Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah which initially had 999 friends on facebook, now has 2,800 friends in his account. That was on 20th July 2009, could you imagine how many now? He said he want to hit 5,000 at the end of the year.
Family support: Saifuddin launching his first e-book titled ‘Kalau Saya Mahasiswa’ in Kuala Lumpur yesterday. Looking on is his wife Datin Norlin Shamsul Bahri and 15-yearold daughter Nur Madihah Saifuddin.
According to Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah, “Youths prefer to express themselves freely without barriers,” he said in the press conference. Based on his observation and interactions with the students on facebook, he also mentioned that the tertiary students are interested when it comes to politics but they preferred not to be loyal into any particular parties. They do voice out their opinions and ideas freely in facebook.
This is because they are not restricted to anything and each of them have their rights to voice out any opinions that they feel that needed to be voiced out. According to Ainur Syahrizal, 26,a student that is in his friend’s list also mentioned that she is able to interact with him and other students by exchanging opinions and learning new things which could help her in her work.
Furthermore, another student Nur Aliaa Mat Jusoh, 21, held similar views.
“By interacting with him, I realise that he is trying to catch up on how the youths are progressing and to highlight the voice of the Malaysian youths,” she said.
This shows that Deputy Higher Education Minister is interested in knowing what does the students think about political views from the students point of view and at the same time, being able to use it in the future. Facebook as a new media and as a social networking service have brought many people to his account and therefore, he is able to know what is going through the students mind.
Moreover, one more student by the name of Michael Teoh, 22, he mentioned that many people stereotyped the politicians that they are ones that are unable to be reached and facebook says it all by being able to reach even to the Deputy Higher Education Minister which is definitely an effective platform without any borders.
As we can see, the media have made everything seem to be extremely easy. With the use of facebook, we are able to connect even the person from the other end of the world as long as there is internet connection. And when it comes to a politician, it is impossible for us to reach them no matter what is the cause. Because when it comes to them, there will be security, police, there even might be “metal detector machines” to go through in order to meet them in person, but with facebook, the media made everything seem to be so easy just with a click of the mouse.
Now lets discuss about the ancient and the recent technology. Both are totally 2 different things. We do not know what coming up in the future, that is all in the hands of the younger generations. The old clock and the new clock, there’s no difference. Take a look at this pictures.
My analog watch.
My digital watch.
Honestly, I don’t see the difference because i use either one depending on the occasions. Like i wear the analog watch when i’m going for presentation or maybe a meeting. The digital watch is the one i use the most because i always go out and i need a watch. Furthermore, it has light so that i can see the time in the dark. To me, technology does matter, its just that nowadays, people concentrate more in style whenever they see things. I swear i still have an ancient sewing machine at home, and it still works wonders. Now let’s compare this.
My Nokia 1200 with only normal functions.
My Nokia 5320 Xpressmusic with almost every functions a good phone should have.
Now this 2 phones, i still use them to communicate, as long as i can call or send text messages, its good enough for me. When i’m bored, i’ll just put on my headphones on my Xpressmusic and satisfy myself with my music playlist.
You see, it doesn’t matter whether how old or how new the technology is, what it matters is how useful will it be for us for now and the future. Well you never know what is going to come up in the future. Analog and Digital has been in the around for ages, and yet, we still see it as “oh its looks old fashioned, lets get a better one”, or maybe “not nice lah, i prefer the one with gadgets and all those interactive software’s”.
Come on people, its still the thing that we need, its what we use everyday. What would happen if both is gone? What are you going to do about it? To me, i don’t mind, as long as i have something rather than nothing. If i’m rich, i wont mind buying expensive, high techie stuffs, hehehe.. But for now, lets think about the usage, how beneficial it is to us and to the society. Isn’t ancient is more classy afterall?
Go figure you guys, have a good headache thinking!
I take the bus to college since i started college for the past 3 years and i’ve noticed that the buses have changed for the better of the passengers from that time until now. And as time passed, lots of developments and upgrades that i have seem from that public transport itself. I noticed there was 2 televisions that was placed inside the buses that i travel everyday. And i got to know that it was a new television programme called Asia Media’s Transit-TV which was aimed for public transports.
And From what i’ve seen in The Star Online, according to Asia Media CEO Datuk Ricky Wong the company would be the first to deploy digital video broadcasting (DVB) for Transit-TV. This would be a time to upgrade and one step closer for Malaysia to a more digitalised country. This is made possible because of the intelligence and creativity of today’s society people which was able to enlarge the media into a higher level. For now, Asia Media have been improving and have also aimed their focus on the public transportation users to ensure that they also have the priority to watch the live news and to know about the current issues all over Malaysia.
More to come: Najib (left) and Wong during the bus tour
According to them, “At present, we have over 3000 LCD TVs on some 1500 stage and express buses providing info-tainment programmes and advertising in Klang Valley, Johor, Singapore and Peninsular Malaysia”.Which is a big accomplishment for Malaysia. The ability to use new media technology and apply them to various public transportation guarantees the public to be more closer to the media world and will shape the media into a stronger and more efficient way to give knowledge to people. They will put their aim on every public trnasportation to ensure a larger audience scale.
This is made success by both Najib and Wong as they want media to expand all over Malaysia. Which enables the whole country to enjoy what is being shown in the programme including latest news, sports, and many more. This is a good advantage to further improve and put the media in Malaysia to a towering level of success and opportunity to make the media useful to the audience. Starting next year, they will improve the existing network to a better narrow casting Transit-TV station.
Without the media, the human race would be lost without knowing what is happening in the world and current issues.
The Blackberry. Everyone’s dream phone. Similar to the iPhone. Only different software and interface. When this phone model 1st came out, everyone went berserk. It’s like a phone that has everything in it. I have a few friends in college that have this phone, and they are very much happy with it. I even have another that ordered it on the net and waiting for arrival right now at this very moment. If i had the chance, i mean the money, i would love one too. Who wont want it? It has everything, WiFi, internet service, cool themes, the interface, the user-friendly software, GPS and etc. There’s too much and i cant name them all. Similar to Shakthi’s iPhone - iWant =) which pretty much explained what i’ve explained when it comes to ‘cool’ phones like this, people go crazy over it.
Here is a video about the overview of Blackberry. Watch it to know whats it about.
In this video, it shows the basics of the Blackberry phone on the person’s point of view. Just as introduction of the phone for those who are not aware about it. Another introduction video is below by the merchandising manager itself, the expert, for a more detailed tour about the Blackberry.
This shows that Blackberry, the smart phone, has many varieties when it comes to models. Every phone brand has variety of models too which is similar to Nokia, Samsung, Sony Ericson which is the few of the worlds leading phone brand. The designers of these smart phones brought in their creativity to their limits by creating phones which is more interactive and user-friendly. The many functions that Blackberry has which is similar to the iPhone has many people eyeing on them. The more functions there is in a phone, people would want it even more, a dream phone for everyone. I am personally happy with my Nokia 5320 Xpress Music and i think its cool too. There are functions that i want and i got it, but definitely not as slick as the Blackberry. People like what they see, and if they see something cool, i’m sure they would want it. I know i do. What’s not to like? Enjoy.
Watch this three video spoof and enjoy! Hope it is not too case sensitive.
Shell culture, that’s what we learn in our class during our lecture which somewhat does affect our society and it is a common behavior that exist in the community itself. In happens in our daily lives when we leave home and get home. A good example is when we leave to work and get back from work as a daily activity for working adults.
In a shell culture, being private mobilized is almost similar with mobile privatization but individuals do communicate in a totally different way. For example while in the car driving, an individual communicates with other drivers using lights, hand gestures, and signal lights. Others communications are by following the traffic regulations which also can be considered as communicating or mobility of transportation.
Check out this link, it is hilarious, but it is related to shell culture. If the video can’t be played, click on the link below.
So when it comes to shell culture, everybody does it, even including me when i’m about to reverse my car, there’s a signal light, and a put my arm out of the window of the car as a gesture to let other drivers from behind that i’m coming out and a “thank you” gesture for letting me through.
This is still considered as communicating with other drivers and a shell culture as well. Think about it, i am sure you people out there have done that before. It is essential and it is apart of our daily live. So if some of you people do not do it, then maybe you’re a insane driver.. Haha. Enjoy!
Internet dating started when the internet itself came up with instant messaging services like Window’s messenger, YM, Facebook Chat, and social networking sites like friendster, or facebook which enables people to globalize with one another. This is made simple rather than writing a letter and it goes through the postman, the post office, the duration it takes depending on distance and the final delivery. That would take like ages to arrive by then. Now the internet made everything easier even when it comes to dating.
A very good example i would like to show is this girl named April Yim, self-advertised herself by making a blog of her own and starting an online dating site by herself was simply impressive. She decided to simply make full use of her Twitter Account and asked guys to simply send application form to have a date with her. Check out her blog at (www.verseincomposition.com) and her site is called September Socials.
April Yim's September Socials idea, where guys can send in online applications to have a date with her, as yielded ten dates so far, with many more to come.
April, for example, has emphasized repeatedly that she’s not desperate, but is simply taking advantage of the new social possibilities made available by online social networking to have some fun, and revolutionise the dating game in Malaysia while she’s at it.
“The Internet makes dating easier. Most people are afraid of asking someone out because they fear rejection. It’s very hard getting a rejection to your face.”
“But with September Socials, guys can just send in their applications; and if I don’t think I want to date the person, I just won’t reply. It’s easier that way because they won’t have to hear about the ‘rejection’,” said April.
She added that,
“I feel very empowered by the experience. I never thought that I could be that laku (sought-after)!” she said with a laugh.
“It’s such an overwhelming feeling, to know that you are attractive in many different ways, and not just physically.”
April Yim's September Socials idea, where guys can send in online applications to have a date with her, as yielded ten dates so far, with many more to come.
“And I never thought that Malaysian guys could be so nice. Some of them bought me flowers and gifts, which I thought only guys in Western countries did for their dates. Malaysian guys definitely have a lot of potential to capture a woman’s heart, but they’re just too shy,” she commented.
So far, she’s had 23 applications, “rejected” three of them and been on 10 dates. She’s had three applicants from Singapore, been stood up once after waiting for almost an hour, had her heart warmed by some thoughtful gifts, and had one guy ask her to get serious with him.
This girl decided to do this because it is much simpler to do everything on the internet. When she came up with this idea, her friends thought she was crazy, some friends thought she was joking about it and other worried about her safety. According to her,
But of course she will let her friends know where will she be headed and inform them when she’s back home, introduces the guy to her sister before she leaves home, get her friends to call once or twice to check on her. This includes updating her status regularly on Twitter via mobile. For security reasons to ensure her safety, she double checks her details on Facebook and Twitter to ensure that she doesn’t get hacked or stalked by anyone.
April added that, “There are still some dates that I haven’t gone for yet, so I’ll definitely be extending September Socials beyond September. But I’ll carry this on indefinitely. I’ll leave the application form on my blog, and guys can apply any time,” she said.
See how internet dating can be more simpler with it comes to internet? This would be a good experience if i’m able to to it too. So far, she’s been doing very well and enjoying the experiences, maybe there will be October Opportunities, or November Nuptials but make sure there’s no December Disaster!
Mobile privatization have been apart of our lives. Every time whenever we get a phone call, we tend to isolate ourselves and entertain the phone call to talk to the person on the other end of the line. Especially when it comes to an important call for example, something that you do not want anyone to know, or talking to someone close like a girlfriend/boyfriend.
A woman having a private conversation with another person at the other end of the line.
Furthermore, when it comes to mobile privatization, although people are always connected with other people when technology is involved, they still somehow want to have their own space but being available at the same time. An individual tends to isolate themselves at times when they are in society because they basically want to have their “private time” so that they are able to do things that do not concern others. Mobile privatization is the reclamation of public space which indicates that a person want to have their own freedom and being private but mobile. That is also another form of mobile privatization. For example, when a student wants their private time to do his/her assignment because they need concentration so that they are able to complete their task but being accessible with their mobile phones or instant messaging systems if they need assistance from a classmate for help while doing assignment, or maybe in case of any emergency.
Barack Obama on the phone in his private study.
Moreover, there is this term called “Cross Talk” which emphasizes on how these moblie phones are being used in public. “Singles” means people who are alone and “Withs” means people who are with other people. People compensate for being alone and feeling vulnerable in these situations by using self-defense mechanisms to justify their singular presence in public spaces. For example, Singles may read a newspaper, drink a cup of coffee or otherwise seem occupied in order to avoid being approached or appearing as if they do not have any business being in public places.
“Singles may be seen having something wrong with them for not being able to be in a With - potentially seen as not having friend nor being sociable”. In addition, this shows that the ‘Singles’ are not being able to communicate and engages the self-defense mechanisms that all of a sudden makes them feel left out whenever a phone call comes while the ‘Withs’ are having a face-to-face conversation. This breaks them apart and interrupts the relationship when a third party bothers by calling one of their mobile phones. This includes short messaging system (sms) like on the picture below.
"Singles" gets call while "Withs" felt left out.
Getting interrupted by a third party while the other person pretends to occupy herself with her phone.
Now you know why mobile privatization is extremely important when a person receives calls and sms. Sometimes a person just need to be alone/private when it comes to privacy. Well it is a private moment when a person is occupied and it is understandable. But will this mobile privatization gives a big impact and affects the society? What about communicating face-to-face? Is it a good or a bad thing? Now figure that out.
