The TEST RUN for the new area of communication
I was at a meeting with my school mum hat on last night and was talking with another mum - also a Murdoch student and a third person in charge of the school’s website. I was able to mention a few bits and pieces from the course I had just completed and they were VERY impressed. Major wow moment was the Zotero for the student who had been struggling with EndNote and the Creative Commons knowledge for the website (it currently has no licence details). It’s great to be able to use the knowledge so quickly after training - a rare thing at times!!
This youTube video is about Action Research from the early stages. Action Research-First Steps
I used this photo as an example of how to input from Flickr to blog and use the creative commons licence to allow the use of the images.
Open Access was something I had heard about and knew a bit about but it was good to find out the details. My post of Action Research Link was a practice and accessing and linking to an open access source. It will become extremely important to me as I begin to look at publishing options for future research.
I have also been able to set up the library links in google scholar. I have access to a couple of libraries so it will be good to be able to see quickly where I can obtain articles etc from that are not easily available as yet through open source sites. Again I think this will come into it’s own as I become more involved in the research process.
I have managed to download LibX as an add-on. Each time I do this I feel a sense of accomplishment as I am not the most computer savvy of people. At this stage, I am glad it is there and I will use it in future searches.
Firefox is great and the discussion of the extensions was exciting. I was so keen that I came home and installed it on both my machines. When it came to the add-ons though, I immediately met with disappointment - the one I really thought would be great “fireshot” does not work on either of my machines. I was able to download colorful tabs, LibX and Zotero so I look forward to using these as I begin to collect resources for my thesis.
I LOVE the idea of RSS. I have had in for Apple since setting up my new systems but did not realise the applications of it until now. It is great!!! Now I just need to figure out which links I need for my research and to get them all set up. It may now take an hour to check the RSS on top of the hour to check emails in my already full full days.
This is a whole new world for me! I still want to explore how I can set one up for my professional sector and am concerned about the ability of others to track through them but I will continue to work on it. I used the name “Wal’s Words” as I was trying to keep a little anonymous but due to logging in through the Murdoch system, my name appears on it anyway- not sure how to get around this, if I need to, or the implications of this?
The use of web-based email was not that daunting as I alreay had some and now have one that allows easier access to the google networks. I have also been able to get all the e-mails now coming to a group inbox for ease of checking and maintaining.
