Embedding videos

Because we recently installed our rain water tank I wanted to find out more about it. I’ve chosen to try and embed this video because it is short. Lets see if it works.

Still Learning

I’m trying to set up a blog for someone else through Google blogs but it seems as though anyone can access the dashboard. Why is this happening? The person I created it for also gets to the dashboard without logging in. What step have I missed?

I’m Linked!

Wow - I’ve created my first link . See how I’ve added a link to a journal article. This is very exciting for me! I’m sure the whole world is interested. It feels a bit like I’ve published my photos of my child’s first baby steps on the web.

Using it.

Okay - so now I’m starting to get a few ideas about how I might be able to apply what I’m learning about blogs to my teaching. I want to set up a class blog, so that discussions around what we are learning can be continued throughout the week - added to and developed by the kids. I’ve realized that I still know so little, like how to set up a blog that’s not connected to Murdoch. Does the blog have to have an ‘owner’. How does a group ‘own’ a blog? I think this could be a great literacy tool, as well as empower the group to develop discussions and contribute and feed off eachother’s ideas. The beauty is in being able to send individuals or pairs to the computer at a time. This will allow those kids who really love to share their ideas the chance to do so without necessarily occupying the whole class’ learning time (because there are always some kids who just can’t get enough ‘airspace’).

Checking it out

I’m trying to check my blog every day, but it stills feels like I’m talking to myself. I guess a blog can only be vibrant if it focusses on a particular issue or theme and then attracts people with similar interests. Which means that I understand the significance of the title more now, than when I created the blog. I guess it should attract people browsing to those themes or issues of concern.

If I decided to continue keeping up a blog I would consider for what purpose, and how I oculd more accurately communicate those purpose to others.

I have set up my reader, but not sure how it’s going to work for me at the moment. I have subscribed to four sites, but some of them have a huge amount of new readings each day. I don’t really want to have thousands of headings listed in my reader for ever - or doesn’t that matter? I presumed that I could set a time frame - like 14 days for instance. So that after two weeks, those marked as read would disappear form my reader. But I can’t see any way to do this yet. Mmmm.

Francis likes my blog. He knows quite alot about them and told me that he always wanted one himself. I’ve asked him to comment on my blog. Please read what he says.

What’s next?

I’m not quite sure what to do with this blog now that I’ve opened it. It feels a bit like I’m speaking to myself - only I’m slowing it down by having to type. It doesn’t even equate with speaking into the void, just to little old me, here at my computer.

Hello!
