Decisions to make before you get a blog

July 24th, 2008 | by Kathryn Greenhill

Here are some things to ask yourself before you press the “get a new blog” button

  1. What’s the blog for? Saying that you are going to blog is like saying that you are going to write - without knowing the purpose for the writing, or blog, you won’t get very far.
  2. What would make your blog successful to you ? Lots of hits? Lots of comments? Just remembering to write in it? Recording useful ideas?
  3. How much time do you have for it ?
  4. Who is your audience?
  5. Do you want to be part of a conversation?
  6. What will you do about comments? Do you want to moderate the before or after they are published on your blog? Do you have time to moderate them in a timely way?
  7. How formal will your voice be ?
  8. Will you have a personalised image at the top ?
  9. Will you have a publishing schedule ?
  10. What will be your blog’s name and  tagline ?
  11. Would you read your own blog ? Is it interesting enough to engage you?
  12. What will be your policy on your own privacy and  others’ privacy?
