Thing 11: Social tagging – search different sites

Enter the same search term in the searchbox at the following sites. The purpose of looking at these resources is to identify varying uses of tags/keywords/descriptors/subject headings. Compare the results you get from each site, and any others you’ve found interesting, and blog about them.

•    del.icio.us - popular social bookmarking site. Kate will be discussing this.

•    Connotea - “Free online reference management for all researchers, clinicians and scientists”. User tagged .

•    CiteULike - “a free online source to organise your academic papers”. User tagged.

•    Murdoch University Library catalogue subject search

•    http://www.library.uq.edu.au/ - UQueensland catalogue search

•    google

•    zuula - compiles searches from many search engines

•    kartoo - outputs sites visually as a series of “maps”. Keyworded with interrelationship of terms shown.
