Thing 2 - Set goals and adult learning
October 20th, 2008 | by Kathryn GreenhillTHING 2. Learn about the seven and a half habits of highly effective lifelong learners and write some goals.
We start this new online learning and discovery journey with a few minutes to review a few habits that can assist in creating lifelong learners.
These habits, which we’ve called the Seven and 1/2 Habits of Highly Successful Lifelong Learners, will provide you with a refresher on what it means to be a lifelong learner. The following video, created by Lori Reed of the Public Library of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County, is our next Discovery Exercise.
Discovery Exercise:
- Make sure you have either the sound headphones or speakers attached to your computer.
- Open up the 7 & 1/2 Habits online tutorial and view it.
- If the pace of the voice is so slow that it stops you from learning, then just use the arrows to click through and read the slides.
- As you watch and listen, write down which habit among the 7 & 1/2 that is easiest for you and which is hardest. You will use your personal blog (which you will set up next) to post your thoughts about lifelong learning.
- What do you personally want to achieve with the 23 Things? What are your goals? What do you need in your toolkit to achieve these? (You will revisit these goals at the end of the 23 Things)
WHAT YOU HAVE TO DO BEFORE YOU CAN TICK OFF THING 2:
- Watch the tutorial
- Write a blog post on the blog you set up in Thing 4 that includes:
- Which habit of lifelong learners is easiest and which is hardest for you.
- Your goals for the 23 Things
- What you need in your learning toolkit to achieve these goals
